Claim: Police have launched an operation to clamp down on cellphone use while driving. Those found on the wrong side of the law will be fined between US$320 and US$1000.
A message circulating on WhatsApp platform claims that the police are cracking down on motorists who will be caught on the wrong side of the law, using cellphones while driving.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube explained to CITE that the message in circulation is not an official communication from the police.
He said even though the message speaks to the offence in such conduct by the police, some of the details are not correct in terms of the law.
“It is truly an offence to use the cellphone while driving a motor vehicle, but the message that is in circulation is not an official communication from the police. The fines that are stated therein the message are not the correct fines that one may be charged with should they be found guilty,” Inspector Ncube said.
