Claim: Dr Thokozani Khupe will be contesting for the Bulawayo Central Constituency seat under the Zimbabwe People’s Action Party (ZPAP) in the 2023 elections.
A Facebook post from one user, Mutsetemari Utete, claimed the former deputy prime minister, Dr Thokozani Khupe, was now a member of the Zimbabwe People’s Action Party (ZPAP) and will contest for the Bulawayo Central Constituency seat in the 2023 national elections.
This Facebook user further claimed Dr Khupe was a political party flip-flopper, whose claim received engagement from other users who criticised Dr Khupe for her ‘unwise political choices.’
However, this claim and campaign poster was dismissed as fake by Dr Khupe’s spokesperson, Ntando Ndlovu, who said she was now a member of the Citizen’s Coalition for Change (CCC) party.
“This is shameful and untrue. Dr Khupe is a member of CCC and there’s no way that she can associate with any of these fly-by-night political outfits,” he said in an interview with CITE.
Ndlovu said the former deputy prime minister was involved in mobilising support for the opposition party.
“We know that the work she’s doing in mobilising for change has unsettled the establishment and hence these desperate and malicious attempts to sow seeds of confusion in society,” he said.
Dr Khupe’s spokesperson added such attempts were made to detract people from focusing on unseating Zanu PF rule from power come next year’s ‘crucial’ elections.
“The end is nigh for the Zanu PF government hence you see these desperate attempts to soil the good name of the former DPM because she’s giving them sleepless nights in their perceived strongholds of rural Matebeleland,” Ndlovu said.
