Claim: An online news portal, Zim Guardian, reported on 22 February that Professor Welshman Ncube and Thabitha Khumalo snubbed the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) rally held in Harare on Sunday.
“I was not informed of the rally in advance. Besides, l had already committed myself to other engagements, that’s why l could not make it. I had important meetings that l could not postpone in lieu of the rally. But frankly, of what value was my presence going to add to what appears to have been the usual script against Mnangagwa?” the news portal quoted Welshman Ncube as having said.
It turned out the reason for Prof Ncube’s absence was due to illness as he was diagnosed with a kidney infection and was advised by his doctor to rest.
“As per the doctor’s prescription, I was advised to stay home and rest. I also missed other engagements I was supposed to attend after Sunday,” he confirmed to CITE.
But Prof Ncube denies ever talking to any publication.
“Utter garbage. I have not given any comment to anyone on any subject in a long time,” he said.
