Claim: An advert circulating on social media claimed that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is recruiting ad hoc staff for the upcoming general election.

The advert provided a link which interested applicants should click to complete their application.

According to the message 1000 collation officers were needed, 1000 ‘preciding officers’, 1 000 security officers and 500 electoral officers.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is recruiting Ad Hoc staff for the upcoming general elections (Apply now). No application fee, monthly allowance and free accommodation,” read the advert.

The message asked applicants to enter their full name, select their gender, provide a valid email address and phone number.

The message also asked applicants whether they are citizens of Zimbabwe or Asylum seekers.

Verdict: False.

ZEC has since dismissed the message as a fake post.

“Fake post circulating on social media,” they said on their official Twitter page.

Background: Zimbabwe is set to hold its 2023 general elections on 23 August 2023.
