Claim: A story circulating on social media claimed that Harare City Council (HCC) management is said to be offering support to the Citizens Coalition for Change`s (CCC) polling agents using syphoned monies from council coffers.
The story went on to quote an unnamed official who is allegedly working for the HCC who revealed that a senior manager within the local authority reached out to the CCC leadership and offered to give US$100 to each rural constituency towards the welfare of polling agents.
“Indeed, Harare City Council works in cahoots with the CCC. In a recent development one senior manager from HCC pledged US$100 to each CCC rural constituency and the funds are said to be used to meet the welfare of polling agents. This is ridiculous,” read the claim.
“How can the HCC misappropriate funds like this? We all know that there are disease outbreaks in Harare like Typhoid and Cholera.”
CITE contacted HCC Town Clerk Engineer Hosiah Chisango who dismissed the claims as false.
“There is nothing like that, we don’t do that and there is no way we can do that,” said Eng. Chisango
He said they are not allowed by law to offer financial support to political parties.
