Zimbabwe is set to hold a by-election on 9 December 2023 following the recall of 15 Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Members of Parliament, nine senators and 17 councillors.
Following the recalls, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since proclaimed the dates for the by-election under Statutory Instrument 188 of 2023.
The nomination court is set to sit at the Tredgold Magistrates Court (Court 5), Rotten Row Magistrates Court in Harare, Lupane Magistrates Court, and Gwanda Magistrates Court on November 7, 2023, commencing at 10 o’clock in the morning.
When can a by-election be held?
According to section 158 (3) of the Constitution, polling in by-elections to Parliament and Local authorities must take place within ninety days after the vacancies occurred unless the vacancies occur within nine months before a general election is due to be held, in which event vacancies may remain unfilled until the general election

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has also announced that the vacant local government seats will be contested on 9 December with the nomination court also seating on 7 November, 2023.
The nomination court for the local authority by-election will be held at Bulawayo Municipality (The office of Town Clerk), Masvingo Municipality (The office of Town Clerk), Tongogara RDC ( The office of the chief executive officer), Zibagwe RDC (the office of the chief executive officer) and Zvishavane Town Council (The offices of the Secretary Zvishavane Town Council).
